Customer Street – SME’s continue to spend more online in advertising

By Customer Street

If the internet was a child it would probably be hitting puberty around now. Yes I know it has been around for a lot longer than that but I am talking about mainstream usage. You know the sort of thing I mean, the internet is now the adolescent who is trying to make their mark in the world. It is moody, temperamental and it has a hankering for the latest fashions which may raise the odd eyebrow.

At Customer Street we have followed it’s progress, we have seen it grow and develop and we have often had cause to boast of it’s successes. All in all the internet, this global child, is growing up fast and from what we see it has a promising future.

The Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) have that our baby is actually a grade A student and has shown that in just a 3 year period online advertising spend has increased by an astonishing £2 billion pounds in the UK alone.

It also shows that customers are becoming increasingly more savvy as to how they spend their cyber pounds. As the internet continues to evolve customers are now able to use more accurate optimisation techniques to make targeting their advertising more effective.

Customer Street spotted this trend over 18 months ago and the following figures actually confirm that the decisions we made to introduce two new national directories were the right thing to do. 21% of internet users are between 25-34 years old. These are the demographic that we have targeted our fresh and funky Smile Local directory at.

Perhaps more surprisingly is how the silver surfer has embraced technology. The over 50’s represent over 30% of the total time spent online. The rapidly increasing traffic figures to our More UK directory only serve to set in stone that this trend will continue for the foreseeable future.

Ultimately with over 90% of internet users having access to broadband it look’s like SME’s will be looking forward to seeing consumers spending more time online.
