The Mobile Business

June 2, 2010

The internet generation is on the move, gone are the days when we all used to dream of being able to afford a computer to get on that snail trail of dial up internet and sit for hours on end staring at the computer screen willing it to change to the next page you have chosen, ah those were the days!!!!

Now the internet has moved into the mobile age and the speed of the upload is faster and more furious that ever before, you don’t even have to be sat at your desk confined with wires, the mobile fascination is the way forward and more and more users are signing up to phone contracts that have unlimited internet access, so they can get what they want when they want on the move without the worry of the expensive data download charges.

The tech savvy business will be well aware that revolutionary gadgets such as the smart phone have changed the way a lot of people now operate their day to day lives such as keeping in contact on  social networking sites with their friends, looking for and booking meals, using apps to search for local products and services all at the click of their fingertips on the smallest pieces of kit available on the market.

It is a massive time for change and the way businesses are run is no exception, you can now purchase smart phone applications that enable you to take credit card transactions away from the shop, great for the mobile trader and even better for the customer as more and more people use the plastic instead of the paper for their everyday purchases.

With the news just hitting the headlines that BT will be attempting to roll out fibre optic broadband to two thirds of the UK it gives the nod in the direction of getting on the internet a very prominent issue for the small business.

Why not try a few different social networking ideas, get yourself on Facebook and Twitter and see how other businesses are using this medium to reach out to the masses, especially as this is now easily accessed by your mobile and may I add massively used in this capacity too.

See you in cyberspace!!

Customer Service Starts at the Top at Customer Street

June 19, 2008

How are you feeling today? There’s no getting away from the fact that yesterday was a pretty miserable day looking out of the Customer Street office window and seeing the rain coming down by the bucket full. Today has been totally different. I spent a fair portion of the morning squinting at my pc screen as the sun made a welcome appearance.

This afternoon I have been able to get a fair amount done too. Since taking over the Human Resources department hers at Customer Street I have been balancing my Accountability role and the new HR role to try and achieve maximum output. It has also been a learning curve as well. But its better to be busy than not, I always worry when its quiet somehow.

Probably one of the busiest people in our business is Stuart Forrest our technical director. It amazes me how many things he can multi task at any one time. Another impressive thing is that hes also really down to earth and this probably accounts for his overwhelming passion to make sure Customer Street continues to achieve great things.

Today, I have noticed that Stuart has not only spent an hour out of his day walking round the different departments here at head office but he has spoken individually with around half of the staff in the office. Stuart’s interest is not only in our customers but also in our staff and whilst he says he doesn’t get to spend as much time as he would like with his staff he certainly likes to make you feel that you belong.

His hands on approach to running the business is appreciated by everyone and he will often pay particular attention to those staff who he doesnt get to deal with on a day to day basis. No one is too insignificant to be noticed.

This whole ethos really spreads right through in our general approach to customer service and this has never been more noticeable than now.
